In February, the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture (ARTS) opened nominations and received submissions for over 80 exceptional artists, individuals, and organizations advancing arts in Seattle.
We are honored to be recognized as a nominee alongside these amazing artists and friends. We are especially thankful to the community who lifted us up.
It is in that same spirit that we must name that this year, our Seattle Mayor has failed to act in service of our community. In the movement for Black lives, Jenny Durkan has overlooked police brutality, broken empty promises, and acted against the safety of protestors in the Seattle area.
Sound Theatre stands with the Black Lives Matter movement and the protestors demonstrating against police brutality. If you would like to stand with the movement, please consider supporting King County Equity Now, Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County, or the Northwest Community Bail Fund.
Thanks again to the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Seattle Arts Commission, and of course to our artists and community for the nomination. For the full list of nominees, visit the Art Beat blog.
