In September, 2006, Sound Theatre Company presented Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST in a unique outdoor staging in the water and on the shore of Lake Sammamish in Redmond, Washington. This site-inspired staging was presented as part of the 4Culture King County Performance Arts Network Site Specific Arts Happenings. “Tempest in the Lake” was performed weekend afternoons and all performances were free and open to the public. Additional support came from the Redmond Arts Commission and Redmond Parks & Recreation Department.
Conceived and directed by Seattle director Teresa Thuman, THE TEMPEST utilized the development of water scenery by Richard Schaefer and the water puppetry of Craig Jacobrown, with Lee Ann Hittenberger designing costumes for the aquatic acting ensemble. The cast featured Jack Greenman as Prospero, Peggy Gannon as Caliban, Lee Ann Hittenberger as Ariel, Christine Longe` as Miranda, Alex Garnett as Ferdinand, Craig Schieber as Alonso, Eric Hartley as Gonzalo, Ricky Coates as Antonio, Cooper Harris-Turner as Sebastian, Lance Channing as Stephano, Jeff Pawlik as Trinculo, Jenny Schmidt as Iris, Ann-Marie Caldwell as Ceres and Melinda Bunnage as a nymph.
THE TEMPEST was the inaugural production of SOUND THEATRE COMPANY which seeks to present highly theatrical work inspired by language and music while showcasing professional and emerging talent in the Seattle area.
