Making Waves Week 4C: Rose Cano

Saturday, November 13

Rose Cano

Pariah

Play Reading – A play exploring the intertwining relationships between freedom and art, workers rights and women’s rights, slavery and class, all through the eyes of the Tristan- Guagain family over three generations.

Inspired by the lives of Flora Tristan, Peru’s first feminist and pioneer in labor relations, and her grandson, infamous post-impressionist artist Paul Gauguin. The two were never alive at the same time. Spanning three generations of the the Tristan- Gaugain family, scenes take place between Peru, France and Tahiti, flipping back and forth in time.

ID: Rose Cano, a Latina woman wearing a pristine white dress and a red beaded necklace, sits in a wooden chair with both legs folded under her to her left. Her arms have matching bead jewelry and her left arm holds up a small green parrot.
