Wishing You Health and Care
Before we begin this update, please know we are thinking of you and hope you have the means to care for your health and sustain your family—be it chosen or other. If you have experienced loss, as so many have at this time, we hold you in our hearts and look forward to the day we can be together again. We continue to hold concern for those living on the margins of society, and support the caregivers and service workers.
While facing so many unknowns in the coming weeks, months and possibly years, we do know that Sound Theatre will continue to operate. You have made it possible for us to grow stronger and continue to present vital work that amplifies and empowers the voiceless in our community. Our core values of equity, community and integrity, will, we believe, lead the path to recovery. Our small and flexible seating performance environments will provide a safe place to build confidence for all audiences. This will all take time.
Here are some of our current plans and efforts:
- We have begun preproduction for our August show The Madwoman of Chaillot. We will assess through May with a final decision on June 1 if this production will continue this season. (See below for more info on that decision.)
- Changer and the Star People is still planned for September – don’t miss Fern and Roger’s Native Storytelling sessions that are all archived HERE on Sound Theatre Company Facebook page.
- Associate Artistic Director Jay O’Leary is leading a Digital Media Plan Task Force to launch multi-media production for digital content and streaming, building a vision for digital and live interactive performance.
- New Board Member Shermona Mitchell is leading the Artist Empowerment Task Force to engage and empower our artists and inform the core principles of our fall strategic plan and the future of STC.
- We have hired Sonia Nelson as our Business Manager and our operations team is stronger than ever. We look forward to introducing you to this new member of the Sound Theatre family.
- Navigating the many COVID 19 emergency relief programs for artists and arts organizations keeps us busy, energized and hopeful.
Our board is growing, strong and committed to reflect the communities we serve.
But mostly, we bask in the resilience, authenticity, courage and brilliance of our artists. Even in these challenging and isolating times, they bring us hope and possibility. We will be together again and we will be stronger and committed to a mission that strengthens the new world. Together, we can embrace this opportunity to rebuild with systems that are just, equitable and compassionate.
