Dear Theatre Lover,

You know that art has the power to transform our world and it is at the heart of all of us. Thank you for volunteering with Sound, for working with us, or for attending one of our readings, or productions and for exercising that power. Your actions create a more just and compassionate world!

On stage and behind the scenes our artists give voice to the dignity and diversity of the human experience. During our shows, you help us engage and connect with new ideas and various perceptions of the world we live in. Our shared experience of theater is powerful, and we carry that power with us into our daily lives affecting change in both small and large ways.

Sound Theatre Associate Artistic Director, Jay O’Leary

I moved to Seattle about four years ago from New York in search of cultivating an artistic home in a place I had never been before. I am blessed to be able to say that I have indeed fostered both creative and personal relationships that now make Seattle a very special place for me. One of the most important relationships bloomed one year ago when I met Teresa Thuman.

I will never forget the day we met. Our connection was electric. The two of us started finishing each other’s sentences and we could feel the flourish of possibility ringing loudly in our ears. In that moment, I knew I had found someone from whom I could learn and grow with. By the end of our first meeting, Teresa asked if I would be interested in being an Associate Artistic Director…YES!!! came flying out of my soul. We make an incredible team and we have big plans for the coming years. I am invigorated by our mission and remain in awe of what we are capable of. Sound is creating some of the most important art in Seattle and you are essential to that art and make all that we do possible.
You are witnessing Sound Theatre at a very special time. Riding the tails of our historic fourth win for Outstanding Theatre of the Year from the Gregory Awards, Sound Theater’s 2020 season, RETURN THE POWER,will deliver three hard-hitting works which seek to dissect power structures, ownership and envisions the path to a more just future. We will partner with like-minded organizations such as LANGSTON and SNAG PRODUCTIONS to bring two world premieres to the stage, we will continue to prioritize inclusive casting, and we will maintain our policy of radical hospitality with ticket pricing starting at $5.

RETURN THE POWER with Sound Theatre in 2020 by considering a donation to help us reach our year end goal of $15,000 by December 31st. We are excited to announce that if we’re able to reach our goal of $15,000 a generous donor will match the amount enabling us to raise $30,000! Your tax-deductible donations make a huge impact. Thank you for your generosity!

With Boundless Appreciation,

Jay O’Leary
