Watchlist

  • Deconstructing Karen
“The crystal is polished. The china is pristine. The candles are lit. And – the nice white lady guests are about to be served some cold, hard truths.”
In this documentary (trailer at the top of the page), we get a glimpse into a dinner discussion held by Regina Jackson and Saira Rao, founders of RACE2DINNER—a movement meant to help inspire white women to confront and acknowledge the racism and white supremacy they benefit from, whether or not they know it.
  • “Difficult Conversations about Racism and White Supremacy” Webinar
“This webinar is about having Difficult Conversations. How are we approaching the difficult conversations in our lives and around racism and white supremacy? What frameworks, tools, and interventions can support us to stay grounded in embodied awareness as we connect with friends, family, and others about challenging topics?”
A webinar from the White Noise Collective. The webpage above includes resources and links directly referenced in the webinar, as well as timestamps. Though the focus is on racism, the tools provided in this webinar can be applied to any other tough topics to talk about surrounding oppression (ableism, sexism, etc.).

WEbsites

  • White Supremacy Culture
Conceived and designed by Tema Okun (with support “by and from many genius colleagues and friends”), this website is a long-form project building upon the widely circulated “White Supremacy Culture” article originally penned and published in ’99 by Okun. It acts as a living compendium of information surrounding the complexities and nuances of white supremacy as a system—”a reflective tool.”
  • White Noise Collective
The WNC was an all-volunteer anti-racist feminist organization that existed from 2009-2022. Though they’ve since dissolved as an entity, their website remains as an archive of the resources they collected over the years, many of which can be found at this link. For their anti-oppression-specific resources, click here.

Podcasts

  • Seeing White
A fourteen-part documentary podcast series released between February and August of 2017, hosted by John Biewen, and edited by Loretta Williams. Featuring a lineup of leading scholars and regular guest Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika, the question of what “whiteness” is, where it comes from, and what it means is explored.
  • Nice White Parents
A five-part series hosted by Serial reporter Chana Joffe-Walt examines the 60-year relationship between white parents and the public school system, and the ways in which the latter has been hindered by the former in the years since Brown v. Board of Education and (legal) segregation.
