THE BELLE OF AMHERST performed:

Maria Glanzis an award-winning actor, writer and teacher who has traveled the globe enriching audiences with her solo works. Locally, Maria has been seen performing at Bumbershoot, Seattle Fringe Festival, Seattle Mime Theatre, Open Circle, theatre simple, Stickfigure, On the Boards, and FringeACT at ACT Theatre. Her award-winning solo works See Me Naked and Pu’uhonua (place of refuge)garnered her critical acclaim and numerous local and international honors including “Best of Fest” in Edmonton and Winnipeg Fringe festivals, “Artistic Pick” in the 1999 and 2001 Seattle Fringe Festivals, “Top Ten List” Montreal Fringe Festival and a coveted Artist Trust Theatre Fellowship. She has performed in the New York Fringe, Canada’s Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Vancouver Fringe Festivals, as well as theatres in New Jersey, Hawai’i, Edinburgh and Victoria B.C.’s UNO Festival of Solo Performance. Her full length drama VIC (Sprit Made Flesh) won the Richard Hugo House New Play Award and was produced at Open Circle Theatre. Maria has been also seen as Louise in Always, Patsy Cline and Karen in Dinner with Friendsat Spokane Interplayers. A devoted educator, Maria has been Artistic Director of Playwrights Project in San Diego, CA and Rainier Valley Youth Theatre, a program of SEEDArts in Southeast Seattle, and has taught for Seattle Children’s Theatre, Youth Theatre Northwest, Seattle Public theatre, and numerous schools.
Brad Hawkins has taught cello and contemporary performance technique as well as other music related subjects at Seattle University, Portland State University, Indiana University, the University of Iowa, and at the Hochshule fur Musik in Freiburg, Germany. He is also a composer of works for choir, small ensembles, electronics, and full orchestra. Brad has performed with most of the orchestras in the area as well as jazz and contemporary performance groups. He was the founder and music director of the Seattle New Music Ensemble wherein he commissioned and performed numerous works by local and internationally known composers and continues to perform new works by himself and others. Currently, Brad serves on the faculties of Lakeside School and the Academy of Music Northwest, maintains a large teaching studio, and spends a lot of well deserved time with his two young children, Thorvald and Astrid, and his lovely wife, Claire.
