TROILUS AND CRESSIDA, By William Shakespeare
“I cannot fight upon this argument;
It is too starved a subject for my sword.” I.i, Troilus

In March, 2008, Sound Theatre Company will present Shakespeare’s rarely-performed searing satire on sex, politics and the consequences of an entrenched and aimless war. It is seven years into the Trojan War which has reached a stale-mate and both sides, Trojans and Greeks alike, are questioning the value of continuing the conflict. TROILUS AND CRESSIDA centers around Troilus, the young son of the Trojan House of Priam, and his love for Cressida, when political maneuvering interferes with their blossoming romance. Simultaneously comic, tragic and satiric, Shakespeare offers a chilling twist on the classical mythic heroes of antiquity.

Continuing a tradition established for “Tempest in the Lake” , STC will also present this Shakespearean drama in a site-specific environment, intended to lend an immediate and credible lens through which to view this classical text. This production of Troilus and Cressida will utilize a former military naval space at Magnuson Park in Seattle, Washington, highlighting the historic and military nature of the non-traditional performance venue. TROILUS AND CRESSIDA performances will also coincide with the five year remembrance for the start of the current war in Iraq, including commemorative performances on March 19 and 20th.
