Accessibility

Sound Theatre Company is committed to making our shows Radically Accessible.

When possible, we offer sensory-friendly, ASL-interpreted, CART-captioned, and English/Spanish-captioned performances. Please check each show’s listing for these dates.

All of our shows include wheelchair-accessible seating. If this is something you require, please select your tickets under the “Accessibility” section of the ticketing page so we know to save a spot for you!

Accessible Performance Options

Below are descriptions of the accessibility options we provide for our performances (and many events).

If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or special requests, please reach out to accessibility@soundtheatrecompany.org ahead of the event.

Assisted Listening Devices

The Center Theatre has Assisted Listening devices.

Please check in with the folks at concessions and be prepared to exchange a driver’s license or credit card, which will be held for you until the completion of the performance.

ASL Performances

When possible, ASL interpreters will be available at select performances and events. Please check the respective calendar or event description for these arrangements.

English- and Spanish-Captioned Performances

We provide multiple performances with English captioning, as well as ones with Spanish captions for our Spanish-speaking audiences (specified in the performance calendar).

These are operated from a computer and appear on a screen positioned to maximize readability while watching the action. We ask you to sit on the left side of the house for best access to captioning.

NOTE: We are working on having a Spanish translator present for pre-show and post-show discussions, but we cannot guarantee this at this time. Please let us know if you have any special requests regarding this.

Audio Descriptions & Tactile Tours

We provide at least one performance each run that includes audio description, as well as a pre-show Tactile Tour to support our Blind and Low Vision community members—and anyone else who may benefit from it.

For Tactile Tours, we ask that you reserve your spot ahead of time. These will be open to all audience members.

If a patron would like additional seats at no cost for their interpreters, please email accessibility@soundtheatrecompany.org (or the given email on the show page/description).

Large print and digital programs are available.

NOTE: We are working on Braille programs and signage, as well as a group of volunteer human sighted guides, but we cannot guarantee these at this time. Please contact us if you have special requests.

Mobility Devices & Service Providers

We provide flexible front-row seating for mobility devices. If this is something you require, please select your tickets under the “Accessibility” section of the ticketing page so we know to save a spot for you!

A push wheelchair will be made available to you upon request.

You can request a complimentary ticket for human service providers. Service animals are always welcome at no extra cost.

Sensory-Friendly Performances

We will always provide at least one Sensory-Friendly performance for a show’s run. The adjustments are typically as follows:

– House lights are partially raised
– There will be a designated exit with no barriers to leave and return as needed (we encourage you to use the seating to the right of the house for the safest egress and re-entrance)
– Ear plugs will be provided for free at the concessions stand (we may not lower sound cues)

NOTE: We are working on providing Sensory Kits (noise-reducing headphones, ear plugs, blankets, scented and weighted neck wraps, fidget toys, etc.), but we cannot guarantee that these will be available at this time. That said, please let us know if you have any special requests we might be able to arrange for you!

All-Masked Performances

For these performances (specified in the performance calendar), we ask our patrons to wear masks so members of our community who need that extra protection can attend our performances.

We will provide simple masks, and hand sanitizer will be available.

If you would like to reserve an extra seat or two for distancing, please contact accessibility@soundtheatrecompany.org, or the email specified on the show page.

Radical Hospitality Ticketing

At Sound Theatre Company, we believe that theatre should be accessible for all. As such, we have tickets available at a sliding scale rate:

$5 — Inclusion Rate
$25 — General Admission Rate
$50 — Patron Rate
$75 — Benefactor Rate

You are welcome to purchase tickets at any price you choose. There is no difference in service or seating among the price levels; the higher rates simply reflect the true cost of producing our high-quality, award-winning work and supporting the artists that make it happen.
Sound Theatre appreciates your commitment to supporting art and artists in your local community!

Seattle Center Theatre

Our current home theatre, the Center Theatre at the Seattle Center Armory (as well as the connected Black Box Theatre) is fully accessible and follows all guidelines set forth by the ADA, including accessible restrooms.

There are three ADA-accessible entrances to the Armory (Center House), wherein the Center Theatre is located. Please note that two of these entrances are not to the performance space.

The best entrance to use is the East Entrance (facing the delightful “Artists at Play” Playground and the MoPOP), which will bring you directly to our doors just left of the entrance!

Click here for a map of the Seattle Center Campus. The Armory building is, appropriately, at the center of it, just south of the Memorial Stadium.

It is not possible to drive up to the theatre directly. The closest drop-off point is the turn-around at the MoPOP, located at 5th Ave North and Harrison. Please be aware that there’s about 200 yards of distance between the turn-around and the theatre’s entrance.

Buses and Parking

The Armory is accessible via a number of King County Metro busses along 5th Avenue North, Denny Way, and 1st Avenue North. Additionally, you may use the Seattle Center Monorail, which brings you to and from the Westlake Light Rail Station downtown.

There’s paid accessible parking in front of the Memorial Stadium (northeast of the Armory) and a number of street parking spots around the Seattle Center campus, including some along Republican Street and Speight Jenkins Way beside the stadium and McCaw Hall.

There are two nearby parking garages: the Mercer Street Garage to the north and the 5th Ave North Garage to the east. When you park at these garages, your fees support the Seattle Center free programs and campus grounds.

If you’ll require further assistance to get to us, please reach out to accessibility@soundtheatrecompany.org as soon as possible, prior to the show, so we can plan ahead!
